Biographies

  • Heather Barbour
    • Teaches: American Sign Language

    • Heather graduated with a degree in Deaf Education and taught deaf and hard of hearing children in the classroom setting for four years. She earned a Masters in Elementary Education with a focus on Special Education and continued to teach before having her first child and staying home. Over the years she has taught sign language in preschools, co op settings, and now teaches ASL to High School students out of her home. Heather and her husband have four children who have been involved in New Life Camp homeschool classes, sports, and camp for eight years now.

    • Pamela graduated with a degree in Radiologic Technology. Though she began working in the medical field, she has always been an artist at heart, whether her palette is plate, canvas, wood, or cloth. Last year, the Lord allowed her to share her love of culinary design in a cake decorating class for middle school girls. Pamela and her family, husband David and three home-schooled children Tristan, Mariah (both graduated), and Eden have enjoyed New Life Camp’s ministry for fifteen years.

    • Christian camping played an important role in Chuck’s early years as a camper and counselor at Camp Victory in Alabama. Chuck is the Director of Facilities at NLC. He has a background in construction work in the areas of carpentry, cabinet making/woodworking, painting, plumbing, and electrician work. He has certifications in carpentry, cabinet making, and electrical from Reid Technical College in Evergreen, Alabama, a BA degree in Theology from the Baptist College of Florida, and an M.Div. w/ Christian Education Degree from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC. Hobbies and areas of interest: Woodworking, Art, Fishing, Motorcycles.
  • Andrew Hicks

    • Andrew is a recent High School graduate through Homeschooling with six years of competition robotics experience. In those six years, his team won multiple State Championships, several Qualifier Championships, and even competed in the World Championship his senior year. His experience with robotics has taught him the importance of teamwork, as well as coopertition (the art of competing while cooperating with the competition).

    • Jamie graduated from NC State with a BA in International Studies and then with a Masters in teaching English as a second language. She has studied Arabic, Spanish, and French and enjoys learning and teaching new languages. She has worked for Wake County Public Schools for the past 3 years and is currently enjoying a new phase of life as a stay at home mom and enjoying time with her husband, Andy, and son, Penn. She grew up attending New Life Camp for many years and is very excited to be back!

    • Linda earned her BS in Special Education from James Madison University and taught for Wake County public schools in grades K-8 for 32 years. She earned a masters in School Administration from NCSU in 2012. She enjoys incorporating Biblical Truth and having devotions in her lessons at New Life Camp.

    • Amy is an experienced Physical Education Specialist with years of classroom experience in public, private, and homeschool settings. Amy’s PE classes teach children to develop basic motor skills, movement patterns for sports, and a healthy life style while incorporating biblical truths and verses through the PE lessons. She attended Campbell University where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education with a concentration in Elementary Physical Education and Adaptive Physical Education for children with special needs.

    • Hannah Martin graduated from Meredith College with a BS in Child Development and a Birth-Kindergarten teaching license. She taught Pre-K Special Education in Wake Country for three years. She currently works part-time as a developmental therapist in early intervention. After attending and working at NLC day camp for many years, Hannah is excited to be back at camp sharing the love of Jesus with young children!
  • Kyle Mendenhall

    • Kyle is starting his third year as the director of basketball at New Life Camp. He transitioned to Raleigh area with his family in 2015 after coaching collegiate basketball for 9 years. Kyle was born and raised in Kansas and played college basketball at Sterling College in Sterling, KS. Kyle has had opportunities to play and coach basketball in five countries. Kyle received his B.A. in Exercise Science & Education from Sterling College and his M.A. in Health & Physical Education Union College. Kyle has been married to his wife Grace for over 7 years and they have 3 children, Hezekiah, Josiah, and expecting their newest addition in late August of 2017.
  • Angie Moore
    • Teaches: Beginner Dance (Ages 7-10)

    • Angie started taking dance classes at the age of 3.  She truly gave her talent to Jesus in college and the Lord blessed her with many opportunities.  She was a member of the N.C. State University Modern Dance Company for four years. She enjoyed dancing at the John F. Kennedy Center twice with the company and choreographing her own work that reflected Christ.  After college, the Lord led her to teach all forms of dance at a Christian dance studio where her students through the years ranged from ages 3-75.  While at the studio, she enjoyed performing and choreographing for Rejoice Dance Company.  For many years, she taught dance at Camp Willow Run’s Mother/daughter retreat.  She also teaches dance at her church for their summer camp.  She loves to encourage her students to know they are loved by Christ and to give their talents to Jesus.
  • Danny Myers

    • Danny is from Raleigh and grew up loving the outdoors. He went to NLC for years both as a camper and CIT. He got his Eagle Scout Achievement in high school and then went to NC State where he studied Outdoor Leadership. Currently. he is studying at Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where he is the president of the Southeastern Outdoors Club. Danny has his Wilderness First Responder and CPR certifications and has been leading backpacking, hiking, and climbing trips since 2013. He currently works for a company called MTS TO SEA organizing and guiding trips.

    • Trisha Price has a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.  She is a self-taught artist who has been teaching for the past 13 years using a variety of medium from pencil and charcoal to watercolor and acrylics.
  • Janette Sroka

    • Janette Sroka began playing the violin at the age of nine and she continued to study through high school and college – with private lessons, and as a participant in school and community orchestras.  However, Janette did not continue performing  while raising her three children.  Janette came to know Jesus as Savior after the birth of her second child and has sought to serve Him ever since. For many years Janette taught in Christian Preschools.   The desire to play the violin returned to Janette’s life fifteen years ago when she joined the Providence Baptist Church Orchestra where she  discovered that using her gift in worship is one of the greatest joys of her life.

    • Hannah is a college student at The College at Southeastern. She hopes to be a missionary after graduating from college. She has studied Tae Kwon Do for 11 years and enjoys learning and teaching martial arts. She loves learning about new cultures and languages and likes to meet new people.

    • Jane, a retired teacher and now grandmother, has a BS in Elementary education and a master’s degree in teaching children with learning disabilities. Jane taught in DeKalb County in Atlanta, Georgia, and in the Wake County school system. She has been Children’s Director at Providence Baptist Church and now enjoys leading bible studies at Sunrise Retirement home. Jane has been a faithful bible teacher for summer camp in the past years, and now looks forward in teaching home school children about God’s creation through the class, “Cool Lessons from Animals”. Jane especially loves having her grandchildren in the Clubs program.
